The Sd.Kfz. 251 (Sonderkaftfahrzeug 251) was a basic German AFV (armored fighting vehicle) during World War II. It was a fully armored halftrack. The Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf.A and Ausf.B were used by the Germany Army during the Polish campaign in 1939 (mainly in the 1st Panzer Division). The number of Sd.Kfz. 251 built was over 15,000. The Sd.Kfz. 251 was used by other countries as well: Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary. In addition, captured Sd.Kfz. 251s were used by the Soviet army.
