The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.E was the first of the mass series version of the German medium tank PzKpfw III that was supposed to be the primary combat vehicle of the Panzerwaffe. Until the outbreak of war, only 96 copies of this version were produced. It was armed with a 37mm cannon KwK 35/36 L/45 and two machine buns, 7.92mm MG34. It had armor 21-30mm thick and it could attain speeds of up to 40km/h. German Panzer Divisions were equipped with Panzer III from the beginning of the September 1939 campaign.
