This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.
During World War II, the United States enforced the Lend-Lease Act, which lends munitions to Allied countries, providing various supplies to the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China and other countries. That supply was a major driving force in the Allied victory. Britain, which was lagging behind in the development of land weapons, especially tanks, was loaned over 17,000 M4 Sherman tanks by the United States, and operated them from the North African Campaign onward. Meanwhile, the 17-pound gun, which was under development, was completed in 1942. The British decided to replace the M4 Sherman’s 75mm gun with the powerful 17-pound gun. The turret was refurbished to provide space for the differently sized gun, and a new loader hatch was added too. The 17-pound-gun-equipped Sherman was nicknamed the Firefly, and began deployment in 1944; it was active in Europe until the end of the war, including Normandy.
This model kit from Dragon reproduces the Ic type, based on the hybrid type in which the front of the hull was cast, and the rear part of the hull was welded. The turret equipped with the long barrel of the 17-pound gun had a box shape at the rear, and the newly installed hatch for the loader is carefully reproduced. The different textures and forms of the cast front of the hull and the welded rear are firmly expressed, and the unique shape of the upper part of the hull cannot be overlooked. The lower part of the hull is also modeled in great detail, including the VVSS suspension, and welding marks on the upper hull are carefully reproduced as well.
