From experience gained in the Spanish War, the effectiveness of ground attacks by aircraft was noted, and at the same time, infantry defense measures against ground attack aircraft were considered. This lead to the development of an anti-aircraft gun seat that could be mounted on a small limber used for transporting infantry units. The machine gun seat equipped with an MG34 could be installed on small passenger cars and other such vehicles, which made it incredibly versatile.
