Description

This is an injection-plastic military vehicle model kit.

In World War II, the German Army developed and deployed a number of self-propelled artillery. Among them, the Sd.Kfz was made by combining the III/IV chassis developed as a self-propelled artillery chassis with the 8.8cm gun that demonstrated its power in anti-tank battles on the North African front. It was originally called Hornisse, which means “hornet,” but Hitler’s order of January 1944 banned the use of the names of insects, so it was changed to Nashorn, which means “rhinoceros.” Development began in 1942, and the first plan was to install a 71-caliber 8.8cm anti-tank gun PaK43, but development was delayed, and the PaK43/1, which was modified for vehicle use, was installed as the main gun instead. The chassis that combined the body and parts of the III J type and the IV F type was characterized by extending the chassis and mounting the engine in the center of the vehicle. The prototype was completed in 1943, and 494 of this vehicle were produced and deployed by March 1945.

This model kit from Dragon reproduces the early type of Nashorn called Hornisse. The III/IV chassis has an open-top battle compartment and a long-barreled 8.8cm gun, giving it a powerful mechanical style. The lower part of the chassis is slide-molded to reproduce its details accurately, and the crawler belt is a Magic Track for ease of assembly. The upper part of the hull realistically modeled the battle room floor at the rear part; the armor plate surrounding the fighting compartment is an assembly type, with parts for each side. Bonus aluminum parts for the impressive long-barreled gun are included too, as are four self-propelled artillery figures. Order yours today!
