Although no complete examples were ever built, the IJA Type 5 Chi-Ri Medium Tank lives on in legend as the “Japanese Tiger Tank” that might have been. Still, the 37-ton tank was the largest, heaviest, best armored, and best armed Japanese tank, with 75mm armor up front, a 75mm main gun in the turret, and a 37mm gun mounted in the hull. Only an unarmed prototype was completed in 1945, with all development subsequently suspended.
