M1/M1A1 Heavy Wrecker
From Thunder Models
The M1/M1A1 heavy wrecker vehicle was developed by the United States in the early stages of World War II and was used extensively throughout the war. Alongside the Diamond T969 wrecker vehicle, it was a 6-wheel-drive large military recovery vehicle utilized by the U.S. Army.
- The M1 was originally developed by Marmon-Herrington and then modified by the Corbitt Company to complete the design, boasting a 27-ton towing capacity.
- Production began in 1941 by the Ward LaFrance Company, and due to increasing demand, Kenworth also began manufacturing the vehicle.
- Combined with the improved M1A1 version, a total of 4,925 units were produced during the war.
